Amid the rich and diverse cultures of the Asian continent, the most populated territory on earth, millions of stories claim to be told every day. Guidedoc invites you to watch online drama documentary films that portray three endearing intimate realities that will not leave you indifferent.
The first movie on our list is “The Next Guardian”, a documentary film from Bhutan that tells the story of two siblings and a father, a family from a small village in the Himalayas that is in charge of the same Buddhist monastery that was once cared for by their ancestors and whose preservation continues passing from generation to generation. Gyembo, the older brother, faces the dilemma of whether to continue with the religious legacy of his father, a Buddhist monk, or change his destiny assuming another occupation that does not require celibacy. Meanwhile, Tashi, the younger sister, loves to play football and dreams of becoming a professional player in the future. Despite their great differences, during the film we witness the infinite love they have for each other in the middle of a generational encounter that pushes them to make transcendental decisions in their lives.
In the middle of a humid and swampy refugee camp on the border between Syria and Turkey, two young Kurdish sisters survive the days after a cruel war. Their tent is the “A157”, a code that gives name to this film directed by Iranian filmmaker Behrouz Nuranipour. When their village was besieged by ISIS soldiers, the two teenagers were raped and later stripped of their parents. Spending the hours underneath his new makeshift home, the two sisters and their friend Soolaf tell us about the cruelties made against them and their relatives, abuses that now have consequences inside their wombs. The film concentrates on the evolution of Hailin's pregnancy, the eldest of the three girls, while she tries to read her mixed feelings about the child that grows inside her against her will.
Our third film shows us two contrasting realities of Nepal through the story of Shanta, a teenager raised in a humble rural village who, after obtaining a scholarship, moves to the capital of the country to study at a secondary school. The film documents the evolution of Shanta in the school where she learns English and dreams of becoming a professional to help improve the quality of life of her family. In parallel, the documentary portrays the daily life of her family in her native town. There, their relatives carry a hard every day life, where getting the most basic supplies of their sustenance entails arduous tasks. Despite being very proud of Shanta, who would be the first daughter to graduate from college, the years have passed and for her family her presence materializes only in a photograph that is getting increasingly blurry.
